Excellence, FSRU of Excelerate, arrived at Moheshkhali Port of Bangladesh on April 24 bringing a commissioning cargo from Qatar. This makes Bangladesh effectively the 41st LNG importing country in the world and also the first new country to start importing LNG in 2018.

Excelerate will operate the FSRU for 15 years before transferring ownership to Petrobangla. An onshore gas pipeline connects the FSRU to the main demand center in Chittagong, the 2nd largest city in Bangladesh. It will supply existing power plants currently running short of gas. LNG will be delivered under a 15 year SPA between QatarGas and Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company (RPGCL), which is a Petrobangla subsidiary with a government mandate to import and market LNG.
