Myanmar has joined the club of LNG importers through its Floating Storage Unit (FSU), which has started opeartions to supply the power station in Thaketa, located in Thanlyin of Yangon for electricity generation. The plant has commenced operations thanks to the shipment of two LNG cargoes from the Petronas LNG Complex in Bintulu which were sold on Free-On-Board (FOB) basis, amounting to a total LNG volume of 190,000 cubic metres. The facility is owned by a joint venture of VPower Group and CNTIC (CNTIC VPower), and it is the first time that LNG is used as a fuel source for power generation in Myanmar. Electricity generated by this power station will be transmitted to support the nationwide electricity demand, in particular in the Yangon Region, via the national grid.
