The Panama Canal Authority will increase the number of daily reserved transit slots available for LNG vessels starting October 1 and will further increase the number again by 2022 according to Deputy Administrator Manuel Benitez.

Starting October 1, LNG vessels will potentially be able to book a second daily slot, versus one currently. A third could be added by 2022. Some restrictions are expected to be lifted in October: for example, LNG vessels will be allowed to transit the locks at night, and they will be allowed to encounter other LNG vessels when transiting the canal, Benitez said.
