Qatar plans to order 60 new LNG carriers

Qatari Minister of Energy, Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi unveiled the plan to build up to 60 new LNG carriers at a summit held between Qatar and South Korea. Minister Saad mentioned that a Qatari delegation had been dispatched to South Korea for the possibility study of adding 60 new LNG carriers to Qatar’s existing fleet of 50 carriers. 
Korean President Moon said that Korea and Qatar were both situated on a peninsula and thus the shipping industry was very important. President Moon added that the transition to LNG-powered vessels would help expand demand for LNG following up the recent trend undergoing a transition to eco-friendlier vessels due to maritime and air pollution.
