Second LNG import terminal in Pakistan inaugurated

Pakistan GasPort’s LNG import terminal at Port Qasim in Pakistan has been inaugurated today. 

LNG will be imported through the 170,000cbm BW Integrity FSRU. The terminal has a 5 MTPA total capacity. The new terminal will more than double Pakistan’s current LNG regasification capacity (4.5 MTPA).

The terminal should receive its first cargo on November 24. 

The terminal has been developped by a consortium which includes Pakistan GasPort, BW Group, FOTCO and Trafigura.

More LNG terminals are also planned to start operations at Port Qasim in the next years. Pakistan’s Prime Minister estimates that the country’s demand for LNG will grow to about 30 MTPA by 2020.
