US Cove Point LNG terminal ships first cargo to Japan

Cove Point LNG export terminal of Dominion Energy in Maryland has reportedly shipped its first cargo of LNG to Japan. LNG tanker Sakura departed from the new Dominion Cove LNG export terminal in Maryland on April 22.

ST Cove Point, a joint venture between Sumitomo and Tokyo Gas booked 2.3 MTPA of LNG produced from the plant for a 20-year term. According to Sumitomo, ST Cove Point will export 1.4 MTPA to Tokyo Gas while 0.8 MTPA will be delivered to Kansai Electric via Sumitomo. The remaining 100,000 tons of LNG will serve as a buffer for Tokyo Gas and Kansai Electric to cope with seasonal fluctuations.
