Ferry Sunflower, a subsidiary of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), will build two new LNG ferries at Mitsubishi’s Shimonoseki shipyard, the first LNG-fuelled ferries to be built in Japan. The project has been adopted under Japan’s energy conservation rating system for coastal ships, a demonstration test programme to enhance operational efficiency. The ships will be equipped with Wärtsilä technology, including 31 DF dual-fuel engines.
